Mya
Soulful singer Mya, who is our 2006-2007 BTTF ambassador. In 1998, Mya's mother, Theresa Harrison, had her first mammogram and found a tumor. Mya's mother was 42, while Mya was only 18. "I knew she'd get through it, but I was also very, very scared. I was a little ignorant as to what breast cancer was," says Mya. Mya's mother went through six surgeries, chemo and recovery, all of which has helped Mya gain some perspective. "Now that I'm aware that I'm at risk, I'm taking care of myself."
Check out Mya's feature in SELF Magazine's October 2006 issue here in our Media section.

JoJo
At the ripe old age of 15, Joanna Levesque - a.k.a. JoJo - has experienced more success and acclaim than most recording artists achieve in a lifetime. She signed her first major record deal at 12, debuted with her now worldwide multi-platinum album, JoJo, at 13, and became both the youngest solo artist ever to score a #1 hit single on the Billboard charts and the youngest to be nominated for an MTV video music award. Add to that a whirlwind world tour, a starring role in the box office smash, RV, and a chance to sing for the President of the United States twice, and you have the stuff dreams are made of. "I feel so blessed, like someone is looking over my shoulder," JoJo says. "I've also learned that when you have a positive outlook and surround yourself with a great team, you will go far."

Johnny Rivera
Johnny Rivera, one of today's most respected salsa artists, decided to temporarily halt his music career in 2006 when his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Johnny Rivera put his family first and let his creative juices rest on the backburner while he stood by his wife's side until she made a full recovery.
Inspired by the struggle and strength of his wife during the past year, Johnny has come back in 2007 with some of his greatest musical work, including "Dicen"--a salsa track debuted at #41 on the Billboard Latin Tropical Chart in just one week. This single and 12 other hits on his new album, Vivo Por Ti (in english translates to I Live For You), demonstrate Johnny Rivera's new understanding of the pain, the fear, and most importantly, the unconquerable vitality of the women who fight breast cancer through his exceptional vocal abilities and irresistible beats.

The Rapture
The moment they released the international dancefloor hit "House of Jealous Lovers" in 2002, New York quartet The Rapture redefined the tip of the indie iceberg fusing the skronk and chaos of punk with the precision and funk of basement after-party disco beats. The Rapture opened the floodgates for many to float through on the wave of this fresh take on some vintage, party-forward sounds. While it's easy to pin the influence of Gang of Four, ESG, and Liquid Liquid on many of the followers, The Rapture's territory of beat mining goes deeper further and wider. The band have shown respect for forbearers as diverse as '70's New York disco progenitor Larry Levan, '80's Chicago acid house innovator Marshall Jefferson, historic party staples like Happy Mondays, The Gap Band, Bizzare Inc and Incredible Bongo Band, as well as unlikely sources like Sun Ra and Uriah Heep. The Rapture are on the verge of becoming as important to dance music as their greatest heroes.
